History
The history of Irving can be counted from the first settlement of Gorbit (options: Gorbett, Torbit - English Gorbit, Gorbett, Torbit), where the post office was located from 1889 to 1894. In 1894, the settlement was renamed Keith (Kit), and it was moved to another place where the railway was planned at the time. In the final version, the railways were not part of the original plan. As a result, in 1902, Julius Otto Schulze and Otis Brown (Otis Brown) offered third place, together with the new name Irving — presumably in honor of Washington Irving (1783— 1859), who was the favorite writer of Netta Barcus Brown, Brown's wife. The official date of Irving's formation is 1903, and in 1904 the post office moved there. Irving was officially recognized as a city on April 14, 1914, and Otis Brown became its first mayor.

At first, the city grew very slowly, with only 357 inhabitants in 1920. It was only in the 1930’s that significant growth started. By 1960, the city population reached 45,000 people, and enterprises of various types were developing. In 1956 the University of Dallas (University of Dallas) opened in Irving.
In 1971, the construction of Texas Stadium was completed, which until 2008 was a home stadium for the team Dallas Cowboys, one of the most successful teams in the National Football League (American football) . In 2009, the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington opened. Texas Stadium was dismantled on April 11, 2010.
On August 2, 1985, Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, a flight 191 Delta Air Lines from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles crashed in Irving which was supposed to have an intermediate landing at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Eight of the 11 crew members, 126 of the 152 passengers and one person on the ground (a total of 135) were killed.
