Pediatric flu cases rise in North Texas earlier than usual
Pediatric flu cases are spiking early in North Texas this year, with health officials urging parents not to wait to get their family vaccinated. The number of pediatric flu cases in North Texas and across the country is increasing, with cases appearing four to six weeks ahead of schedule compared to the past five years. Children's Health Dallas reported a 36% increase in flu cases over the past week, with Influenza A being the dominant strain. Influenza B, COVID, and RSV cases are also less frequent. Children’s Health infectious disease specialist Dr. Zarchary Most recommends that now is the best time to get the flu vaccine, especially since the peak of the flu season is still weeks away. Parents can also be advised to keep their children home when they're sick.
